By projecting outward from your home's exterior walls, these stunning architectural features add physical square footage, flood the room with natural light from multiple angles, and create a beautiful focal point.

Because these windows project out into the elements, they require specialized, highly insulated construction to prevent them from becoming cold spots in the winter. We build them right, using triple-pane glass and heavily insulated roofs and bases.

While both styles project outward, they have distinct architectural looks. A Bay Window typically consists of three panels: a large fixed picture window in the center, flanked by two smaller angled windows (usually operable casement or hung windows). The angles are sharp, usually 30 or 45 degrees, creating a deep projection perfect for a window seat.

A Bow Window is made up of four, five, or even six identical window panels joined together at slight angles to form a gentle, sweeping curve. Bow windows are typically wider than bay windows and offer a softer, more elegant panoramic view, though they don't project as deeply into the yard.

The Critical Importance of Insulation

A bay window hangs out in the freezing -40°C air. If the 'seat board' (the bottom) and the 'head board' (the roof) aren't heavily insulated, the window will be freezing cold, and condensation will ruin the wood. Our installation crews custom-build highly insulated roof structures and bases, using thick foam board and spray foam to ensure your new window seat is warm and cozy all winter long.

The interior seat board is a blank canvas for your interior design. We offer premium, furniture-grade oak or birch veneer seat boards that can be stained or painted to perfectly match your home's interior trim or hardwood floors.
